A blog is a form of a website. Blog is short for "web log". Below are a few of the benefits of using a blog rather than a traditional website:

Establish Credibility - Credibility is atainable much faster with a blog because blogs build a stronger and more instant knowledge base.
Findability - Blogs are easily ranked on search engines and content on the blog is easily found. Each time new content is updated you do what is called "pinging". This is automatically notifying all search engines that you have new content. Search engines will then come in and index your site which will result in increased ranking.
